Aaron Johnstun, J.D., is a mediator with nearly two decades of experience as a licensed attorney practicing in corporate, transactional, and litigation matters. His background includes work in federal and state trial courts, appellate courts, arbitration, FINRA proceedings, and mediation.
In June 2026, Aaron completed the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation Mediation Intensive. This mediation program brings together professionals from around the world with legal, judicial, business, academic, and government backgrounds for focused training in negotiation, conflict resolution, and mediation.
Aaron’s mediation approach is practical, structured, and interest-focused. He helps the parties and their counsel move beyond fixed economic positions, identify the interests driving the dispute, and evaluate realistic options for resolution.
Productive mediation depends on clear communication, careful listening, and enough trust among the participants—including counsel—to allow a meaningful discussion of risks, priorities, and possible outcomes. When appropriate, Aaron uses a non-caucus mediation format where the parties and their legal
counsel remain together during the mediation. This structure allows participants to speak directly, hear each other’s concerns firsthand, and work through issues in a shared setting. In business disputes, it can reduce misunderstandings, support more candid problem-solving, and help parties explore resolution terms centered on priorities and interests—especially where they may have ongoing business relationships after the mediation.
The disputes he mediates often involve partners, owners, shareholders, members, executives, vendors, customers, employees, managers, and other stakeholders. His work includes both pre-litigation and active-litigation matters, with a focus on helping parties assess legal risk, business realities, and practical paths toward resolution.
Outside his mediation work, Aaron is active in the community. He serves as outside general counsel to Warriors Afield Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving wounded combat veterans. He is an active member of the Utah Bar, volunteers in the community, and enjoys the outdoors and fitness activities.
